Title: A Place Called Glory | The Hell of Manitoba | Die Hölle von Manitoba

Medium: Movie

Approximate Length: 90 minutes

Where to Find It: It's currently on free Youtube in it's entirety.

Description: THIS IS THE HOMOEROTIC COFEE SCENE MOVIE! Ahem. It's an old Eurowestern. Our two main characters, free-roaming spirits and excellent gunmen, get entangled in a local feud in a small town. Strangers at the beginning and not easily trusting, they still grow to like each other quickly — not knowing they will end up as opponents.

Honestly, the main draw of this movie are the two leads. The actors are obviously having a lot of fun with each other and their roles and are a joy to watch. The plot's main concern is setting up scenes for the characters and doesn't want you think too deeply about reasons, which makes the movie a pretty light watch in my opinion, and also gives you a lot of freedom in fic.

Ships:

The two leads, Brenner and Reese, are so shippy! The movie's climax hinges on the two of them not knowing each other's names and on the audience rooting for their friendship while unsure whether they'd kill each other, so the movie tries to walk the fine line between "They are strangers!" — "Who instantly like each other!" — "But who might not be entirely trustworthy?", which makes for a fun dynamic where a gay explanation makes as much sense as anything else.

Their first meeting is already a very no-heterosexual-explanation moment, with Reese basically going "You make great coffe, btw the last time someone made me great coffee they slept with me, and before we lie down to sleep did I mention you make great coffee? :) :) :)" And the inuenndo-laden coffee compliment even makes just as homoerotic a reprise a bit later.

Brenner has a female love interest, Jade, and funnily enough, the one scene where they are flirting with each other, Reese is also present (of course he is) and the whole scene reads so much like a three-way-flirt. "Why don't you both tell me all about [fun]", really?!?

Planned requests: Shippy art and fic for both Brenner/Reese and Brenner/Jade/Reese. I'm not picky since the fandom is almost non-existent.

Content Notes Jade is trapped in a loveless marriage to the villain and there's one scene where he slaps her, but overall the movie is pretty light and ends happily. The whole plot is entirely about white guys in White Vaguewesternlandia, so zero diversity, but on the flipside also zero -isms.

Hive Mind Series - Janet Edwards

From: (Anonymous)
Title:
Hive Mind (author Janet Edwards)

Medium:
Books

Approximate length:
5 full-length novels, plus one prequel novella

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on:
Available on Amazon, Kobo, various other sites, in both ebook and paperback form. The author's website https://janetedwards.com/hive-mind-future/ has links to each of the books, including their descriptions and various places to buy them.
Janet Edwards also provides *free* sample chapters of the first book, Telepath, on her website https://janetedwards.com/free-stories/telepath-sample-chapters/

Description:
Oh gosh. I'm really bad at descriptions, but I promise the books themselves are much better than any description of them. They're "young adult" novels, but they're suitable for a much wider age range than that implies; I've known people as young as 10 and as old as 60 who enjoy them. They have so many amazing aspects; the biggest one might be the worldbuilding; they're speculative fiction, set in a future where people live in underground megacities called Hives. (Despite the title, there are no actual hive minds.) All of the worldbuilding to make this feel plausible and immersive is fascinating.
The characters also really shine; they're interesting, lovable, and feel real, and the interpersonal relationships are really interesting.
And the plots of the books are really cool! Each book is mostly standalone, even as they build on each other, but there are some overarching plotty concerns that stick around through all the books. For the most part, the plots of the books center around a case that the main characters have to solve and catch the culprit. However, don't be put off if you don't like mysteries; I don't, and I still love these books.
It's also in first person, but again, I generally prefer third person and it doesn't put me off.
Finally, don't let the covers put you off either. Despite what the cover of the first book might imply, there are no love triangles, just a very compelling relationship between the main character and her partner.

Your ship(s):
The main canon ship, Amber/Lucas, is really well done, and I definitely ship it.
I also ship my favorite character, Melisande, with Amber (albeit only in an AU where Amber is a lesbian and not attracted to Lucas)
The platonic relationships between Amber (the main character) and pretty much all the people who work with her are also really, really nice, and are really fun to explore.

Content Warnings (if applicable): I can't really think of any. There are some ethical questions, but they're part of the story.

Title: The Adventure Zone: Steeplechase

TAZ Steeplechase cover image

Medium: Podcast

Approximate length: 42 ~1-2 hour long episodes (don't let that intimidate you — the time flies by!)

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: Just about anywhere you can listen to podcasts! Also hosted on the Maximum Fun website.

Description: Described as one of the creators as "a nasty story about nasty people, in a fantastically beautiful world that none of us could ever afford." Steeplechase takes place in an absurdly massive theme park, where each floor (or "layer") is its own totally immersive experience. Diehard fans will do anything to get in, and once there, they'll do anything to stay. The story follows three park employees (a washed-up wrestler, a hardlight mastermind, and a forever-masked gentleman thief) who sneak between the layers, stealing cars, blowing up castles, and sticking it to the man. It's ridiculous, it's thrilling, and it has made me feel far too many emotions over a character named Gooch. If you can't tell, I really like this podcast.

I'd also like to spotlight my favorite character, Montrose Pretty: He thinks he's subtle, smooth, and skilled at manipulating others. He is none of those things. He's always wearing a mask, and honestly, that's only in the top three weirdest things about him. After a long day of criminal activity, he likes to blow off steam by visiting his family (and by family, that of course means the broken down band of animatronics that he talks to as if they're real people). And he has a beautiful Southern accent.

Your ship(s) (if applicable): I am a diehard shipper of the main trio (Emerich/Montrose/Beef). Three weird adult men with no outside social network who spend literally all of their time together and don't seem to understand why that's a weird thing. They sleep together. They heist together. They get traumatized together. They're everything to me.

Your planned requests: If you write anything at all for this show I will love you forever. But I would love love love something exploring the dynamic between the main characters, especially from a shippy angle. All three together or any individual combos would be equally fantastic. Angst or fluff or anything in between. Go wild!

Content Warnings (if applicable): Sexual humor and cartoonish violence; later episodes deal with themes of child abandonment but they have an explicit "no violence against children" rule

Title: Stellar Firma
The Stellar Firma cover image

Medium: Podcast

Approximate length: 75 ~20 minute episodes

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: Official page here, or your podcasting app of choice.

Description: In the far future, after the Earth has been rendered uninhabitable (or "died"), the majority of humanity's descendants work as citizen-employees for the terraforming company Stellar Firma. Follows clone assistant David 7 and Trexel Geistman, the company's "highest born but lowest achieving planetary designer" as they spend each shift scrambling to throw together a planet that should have taken them eight hours to design in roughly twenty minutes. Largely episodic and improvised, with some overarching story, but you can get a sense of the characters within a few episodes. Very fun, very silly, and at times, very shouty.

Also, if you've ever listened to The Magnus Archives, David 7 is played by the same VA as Elias. The tonal whiplash is real.

Your ship(s) (if applicable): David becomes smitten with a client (Bathin) after learning that he (a) is duke of Galactonium, a rival human colony founded by defectors from Stellar Firma and (b) bullied Trexel in school. They never meet in the podcast, but David yearns to escape to Galactonium to be with his love. He even sings a song about it, which is an absolute banger. To get a sense of David's affinity for Bathin, you can skip around to episodes 12, 15, 29, and the opening of 71.

Your planned requests: Something light and fun! Maybe David gets to have a fun day outside. Maybe he finally meets Bathin. Maybe he gets to hit Trexel with a hammer repeatedly. Many possibilities!

Content Warnings (if applicable): Specific warnings are available in each episode description, but general CWs include alcoholism, neglect, and lack of autonomy, often played for comedic effect.

Parallel Worlds promo cover
Title: Parallel World

Medium: TV Show

Approximate length: 38 forty-minute episodes

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: Viki, YouTube

Description:
Ok so I am absolutely feral about this show. It's a Chinese drama, but you don't need to be a c-fandom person to enjoy it. It's a beautifully acted, compelling, and gorgeous sci-fi show about found family and grief and healing and I love it so much. It has SO MANY THINGS that fandom loves! Traumatized men. Chaos gremlins. Found family. Actual functional communication. Tropes done sincerely. Badass women. Pretty people. Actors with chemistry. Devotion. Whump. Seriously there are so many amazing things in this show. I made a whole promo post, with gifs, which you can find here

Your ship(s) (if applicable): Chang Dong/Ye Liuxi (the canon main ship). Yes it's m/f, but it has none of the gender bullshit usually found in m/f romance. Seriously, none, they're just people. And the chemistry is INSANE.
Chang Dong/Ye Liuxi cuddle.

Your planned requests: Absolutely anything in this fandom will make me completely feral! I just want MOAR.

Content Warnings (if applicable): amnesia, amputation, body horror (mild visuals, more conceptual), grief. I'm happy to talk to anyone about specific triggers as well!

Han Shiyi from The Heiress.
Title: The Heiress

Medium: TV Show

Approximate length: 24 forty-minute episodes

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: YouTube

Description:
This is a crossdressing historical Chinese drama with incredibly queer vibes. The main character has been dressing as a man since they were a child for ostensibly plot related reasons, and has come to the capital to attend scholar school with the prince and various other sons of important people. There's a succession plot, and a school plot, and mostly just a lot of ways for Han Shiyi to be incredibly trans/nonbinary/genderqueer and fall in (very gay) love with the prince (the prince has a textual bisexual crisis about this! No I don't know how that made it past the censors). Han Shiyi is so incredibly gender that I'm genuinely not sure what pronoun to use except that she/her feels wrong. It's a comedy, but unlike many Asian crossdressing comedies, the joke isn't "haha she's dressed as a man." The crossdressing is vital to the plot and the comedy but it's very much on Han Shiyi's side. Han Shiyi is also just generally a delight, he's an ADHD disaster gremlin and I adore him, and Una You, the actress, is so fun to watch. I have SO MANY THOUGHTS about Han Shiyi and gender and nowhere to put them because the English-language fandom for this show is nonexistent. So come join me if any of this sounds fun!

Your ship(s) (if applicable): Han Shiyi has a canonical love interest who is very gay for them and has surprisingly good comedic timing, it's a very ADHD/Autistic ship. There's also a rivals/crush situation with the second male lead which could easily go in an ot3 direction.

Content Warnings (if applicable): amnesia? I'm happy to provide more details on request if anyone has specific triggers!

Title:
Genso Suikoden I & II

Medium:
Video Game

Approximate length:
Each game is about 45-60 hours, depending on how long you spend exploring.

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on:
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Dunan Unification Wars is out now on all major consoles! You can also watch playthrus on youtube!

Description: Suikoden is a JRPG based off the Chinese tale called Water Margin, where 108 outlaws gather and overthrow the government. Both games feature political intrigue, beautiful pixel art, phenomenal music, gorgeous character art, and a turn based battle system that never gets old. There's 108 characters for you to recruit, and its just so fun to seek them all out. Multiple endings, and so many ship options!!! Not to mention I have a personal nostalgia for this game, it means so much to me. I had so much fun searching around for recruits and peeling back layers of the story every playthru, and I still do a playthru every couple months even to this day.

Your ship(s) (if applicable): I am particular to Luca Blight, one of the antagonists in the second game. He's bloodthirsty and volatile. I ship him with anyone who looks at him too long, but he and Jowy are among my favorites. Jowy and Luca have many moments between the video game and the supplementary visual novels that give them some goodness. Jowy plots against Luca by joining up with him, and they have a lot of moments throughout the game that make me wish there was more!

They even have more interactions in the visual novel featuring never before seen POVs from Suikoden II. This picture down below is from there! There's so much more material out there!

Your planned requests: I plan to request anything and everything just so long as someone please writes SOMETHING

Content Warnings (if applicable): There is war involved, of course, but the pixel art never shows much. People die ofc, and some of the characters have 90s video game misogynist tendencies. At one point in game 2, there is a line revealing a character has been raped in the past. This is small, and the character isn't a major one.

Title: G Gundam
Medium: Anime
Approximate length: 49 half-hour episodes
Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: Sub on Crunchyroll, dub on Internet Archive

Description: Setting - Earth has been ravaged by war, so all the nations created space colonies, and everyone who could afford it fled to them. In order to try and 'fix' the problem of war, they have decided to settle their differences by way of the Gundam Fight. The Fight happens every four years, and calls for every country to send a Gundam and a fighter to control it, and they spend a year battling it out, and the last one standing gives his nation the right to rule all the others for the next four years.

Earth is the ring.

The other thing to know is the presence of a secret quasi-mystical society called the Shuffle Alliance, which has existed throughout time for the purpose of overseeing wars and making sure humanity survives. There are five at any given time, mapped to card ranks, and they are magically 'chosen' rather than deciding to join.

The characters are so dang charming, you guys. This show celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. It's very hot-blooded power-of-friendship/love stuff, and even at its most logically ridiculous really lands the emotional beats. Also it's chock full of hot dudes in latex fight suits.

Your ship(s) (if applicable): Chibodee Crocket/Domon Kasshu is my OTP (like I wrote a ship manifesto and everything), though I won't say no to Argo Gulskii/Nastasha Zabigov
Your planned requests: I am down with just about anything, I will be totally honest, but aside from/along with ships I am interested in the worldbuilding, and digging into the implications of things like "communicating with your fists" and the seeming magic (empathic?) bond between the Shuffle Alliance
Content Warnings (if applicable): Death, animated violence, PTSD, brainwashing, a nanotech-virus, occasional zombies, some dystopian elements

Title: The Merciless (by Danielle Vega)

Your ship(s) (if applicable): Riley/Alexis is my main one.

Your planned requests: Need Riley and Alexis together.

Content Warnings (if applicable): Mild torture, religion, blood, alcohol, teen drama

Title: BETELGEUSE - Yuuri (Music Video)

Medium: Music Video

Approximate length: 4 minutes 51 seconds

Official i.e. legal platforms it can be found on: Youtube (link here)

Description: Some of you may know this song as the theme song from Super Rich. Yes, that’s right! The drama that also stars Akaso Eiji and Machida Keita, who wanted to work with each other again after having so much fun working together on the Cherry Magic live action adaptation! Sadly, the music video doesn’t feature either of them, but it does tease a nice BL story with brand new characters and actors.

The MV stars three characters who are presumably in college: Asakura Ryou, his gal pal Tsuduki Yuki who has a penchant for photography, and Fujishiro. We’re told right from the get-go that Asakura and Fujishiro are from two different worlds – Asakura waits on tables to earn extra money, juggling his education with work, whereas Fujishiro comes from a well-known business family and has it all; looks, brains, and money.

As it turns out, Fujishiro wants to become a voice actor despite the life that has undoubtedly been already paved for him. Asakura discovers this one evening under a starry night sky, right after seeing a shooting star, and they sit and commiserate. Tsuduki, who rounds the corner and sees them sitting atop a small hill in the park, facing a dazzling night sky with their backs to her, smiles before raising her camera to snap a photograph.

From there, we see Asakura and Fujishiro meeting more often and becoming closer. They’re so inseparable that Tsuduki is shown to have taken many more photographs of them together; they cheer each other on as they work towards their respective dreams, and they’re even seen to have matching keychains! Aww! But then!!! There’s trouble in paradise, because Fujishiro’s rich family gets in the way and demands he becomes the person they want him to be. He ends up in a huge fight with Asakura and quits school, beginning work in his father’s company.

So one dream ends, potentially… Asakura is determined to maintain their friendship though, and he reaches out to Fujishiro again. The pair are shown to still meet often, with Fujishiro continuing to cheer Asakura’s dream on.

The final scene shown is Tsuduki celebrating her photography exhibit, and we zoom in to the first photograph she took of the boys sat atop that hill in the park with the night sky and the constellation Orion and its star, Betelgeuse, clearly visible. It’s left to audience interpretation what the ending of this short video means, but one thing is for certain, as evident by the play on words with Tsuduki Yuki’s name a homophone for ‘to continue’.

Your ship(s) (if applicable): Asakura x Fujishiro

Your planned requests: Asakura / Fujishiro. I would love anything about them! A story set during that montage of them getting closer, a post-canon so to speak fic about them maintaining their friendship with lots of potential mutual pining, Asakura achieving his dream, Fujishiro somehow managing to break free from familial pressure and expectations and going after his own dream.

I forgot to nominate Solo: Tsuduki Yuki, but I think an outsider perspective on Asakura and Fujishiro’s developing relationship would be cool too. I definitely think Tsuduki ships them too!

Content Warnings (if applicable): NA.
